Day by Day
Day 1 Santiago / Puerto Varas
We pick you up at the airport in Puerto Montt and take you to Puerto Varas; during the afternoon we will have a coffee and talk about details of the trip.
Day 2 Puerto Varas / Llancahué Hot Springs
We will drive to Hornopiren where we will get in the sea in our kayaks and you will be given safety, rescue and rowing instructions. We will then sail for about 3 hours until we reach the Llancahue Hot Springs; here we will have dinner and spend the night in this family hotel. We can enjoy two hot water pools by the sea and watch the sunset.
Day 3 Llancahué / Quintupeo
We will leave early to Quintupeo fjord, paddling for 4 to 5 hours in a spectacular sail. We will sail the Cumao fiord southbound until we reach the narrow entrance of Quintunpeo fjord at the heart of Pumalin Park. This fabulous fjord has huge granite walls that rise vertically from sea and we will be able to admire waterfalls that jump from the Andes into the sea. This is undoubtedly a nice corner of this planet. We will set camp at the end of the fiord and then relax.
Day 4 Quintupeo / Cahuelmó
This will be our longest day paddling for 5 to 6 hours, nearly 20miles and, depending on the weather and the tide, we might have to do some night sailing, which will give us a different view of the fjord. As every effort is rewarded, we will arrive to Cahuelmo Fjord after about 6 hours, a wonderful place with big mountains that rise from the sea and then go inland amongst narrow valleys waiting to be explored. We will see a colony of sealions, and once we have reached the end of the fjord we will find the Cahuelmo Hot Springs, a part of the Pumalin Project. We will set camp near the natural pools dug on the rock by local people in the early 30`s. We will enjoy a hot spring bath and the amazing southern latitude sunset. Dinner and free afternoon
Day 5 Walk to Abascal Lake
We will wait for the low tide to walk to Abascal Lake. This lake is surrounded by mountains and it provides some excellent fishing. We will return after lunch and on the way we can listen to many birds such as Chucao or the alarm calls by Huet Huet, and if we watch closely we might even see the pudu’s footprints, the smallest deer on Earth. If we are lucky we might see a flying Condor or the footprint of a Puma. Once we get back we can have a free afternoon to enjoy the place.
Day 6 Cahuelmó / Huinay
This day we will go to Huinay, a small fishermen’s village where we will meet one of the families. They will prepare a delicious lamb barbecue, Patagonian style and for those who do not eat meat, we will prepare vegetarian dishes.
Day 7 Huinay / Porcelana hot springs
We will cross the fjord early in the morning in order to take a walk in the exuberant temperate forest. We will cross hanging bridges and see enormous canelos (sacred trees for the Mapuche people) till we finally arrive to the geysers at the heart of the cold rain forest. Once we get back to our kayaks we will row southbound, and after an hour an a half we will get to Don Federico’s home, where we will set camp and go to Porcelana natural hot springs.
Day 8 Free Day
This is a relaxing day where we can enjoy the hot springs, Don Federico’s hospitality and the delicious food prepared by our cook. If you wish we can explore El Tambor valley, a beautiful place with a great cascade falling high from the Andes.
Day 9 Porcelana Hot Springs/ Vodudahue River
We will say goodbye to Don Federico and sail south-eastwards, and after rowing for a couple of hours we will get to Vodudahue River. We will sail upstream and reach a remote trail that will lead us to a spectacular valley surrounded by granite mountains and hanging glaciers. We will get back to our kayaks only this time we will row down the river back to don Federico’s land. Here we will set camp and spend the night, enjoying our last dinner together.
Day 10 Vodudahue/ Puerto Varas
We begin our trip back to Puerto Varas boarding a support boat and sail to Hornopiren where a private bus will be waiting for us to take us to the hotel in Puerto Varas.
A trip that takes us to the wonders of Creation
